Taiwan Mobile intends acquiring a controlling stake in personal handyphone system operator First International Telecom (Fitel).

Taiwan Mobile is likely to pay about $15.2 million for a 20 per cent stake in Fitel. Taiwan Mobile will then raise its stake by buying shares from other shareholders.
