A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has reserved its order on Dr Subramanian Swamy, president, the Janata Party?s request to examine various witnesses to establish P. Chidambaram, Minister of Home Affairs? alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation case.
In response to his request, special CBI Judge O.P. Saini said, ?The court will pronounce its verdict on the complainant’s request on December 8, 2011.”
Swamy has sought to make Chidambaram a party in the case, on grounds that the decision on spectrum pricing was taken jointly by him and A. Raja, former Minister of Telecommunications and IT.
Further, Swamy said that the official documents given to him by the CBI following the court’s order establish that four meetings took place between Chidambaram and Raja, in which they jointly decided to keep spectrum prices at the 2001 level.
He also referred to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s statement that the then finance minister had consulted Raja and the two worked out a formula on spectrum pricing.
Swamy said, “Raja had recorded that the then finance minister had permitted the sale of licences to Etisalat and Telenor despite both the firms being under the Ministry of Home Affairs? scanner. Swan Telecom and Unitech further sold their shares to Etisalat and Telenor respectively. The Ministry of Home Affairs had recommended that these two companies not be allowed to do business in
