The Supreme Court has reserved its order on the bail applications filed by the five executives indicted in the 2G spectrum case.
The five executives include three individuals from Reliance Communications; Sanjay Chandra, managing director, Unitech Wireless, Tamil Nadu and Vinod Goenka, director, Swan Telecom.
The aforementioned had approached the apex court, challenging the orders of the Delhi High Court and the special court that had rejected their bail application. Further, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had opposed their bail plea.
Meanwhile, the CBI has informed the court that it had not opposed the bail request of these individuals.
Prior to this, the court had asked the CBI to clarify its stand on the bail requests of these five individuals.
Thereafter, the agency informed the court that its stand (of not opposing the bail petition) pertained to the bail pleas of Kanimozhi, Sharad Kumar (director, Kalaignar TV), Rajiv B. Agarwal and Asif Balwa (directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables) and Karim Morani (director, Cineyug Media and Entertainment) and not for the other individuals indicted in the case.
The court said that the agency was entitled to make appropriate statements in the trial court regarding the bail requests of the five.
On October 24, 2011, the CBI had opposed before the special court, the bail application of Shahid Balwa (promoter, Swan Telecom) and R.K. Chandolia (secretary to A. Raja, former Minister of Telecommunications and IT).
