The Supreme Court has permitted operators whose licences were cancelled by it in early February 2012 to continue providing services until February 4, 2013, say news reports.
Prior to this, the court had directed these operators to shut down their networks by January 18, 2013 in case they had not bagged spectrum in the recently concluded 2G spectrum auction.
However, in early January 2013, the Department of Telecommunications had approached the court requesting for an extension of the deadline in order to ensure that the operators continue providing services until they bid in the second round of spectrum auction. The government plans to hold the second round of spectrum auction in March 2013.
