Sterlite Technologies (STL) is reportedly planning to invest around Rs 3 billion to boost its optical fiber cables production capacity from 18 million to 33 million fibre kilometres.
According to estimates by Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA), around 33 per cent of the current 625,000 telecom tower base is fiberalised while only 2.8 million fibre kilometres (fkm) has been deployed in the country as of December 2019.
At present, STL operates in over six countries. The company has said that its capacity utilisation has exceeded pre-Covid-19 levels, and expects to see further improvements in Q4 of FY21.
Earlier this month, STL had launched Garuda, a smart 5G Indoor small cell. With Garuda, STL continues to play an instrumental role in building an indigenous 5G ecosystem and enabling its customers to provide enhanced 5G experiences in the future.
