Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) is planning to launch pan-India internet services using the Wi-Fi platform. This comes after the company was able to complete all regulatory formalities for acquiring a pan-India Category-A internet service provider (ISP) licence, including the payment of Rs 3 million as entry fee and submission of performance and financial bank guarantees.

SSTL?s decision to roll out pan-India Wi-Fi-based internet services is aimed at improving its data revenues, which currently comes through its dongles business. Further, a pan-India ISP permit would enable the company to launch Wi-Fi-based wireless broadband services in key data markets outside its mobile footprint. At present, SSTL offers CDMA-based mobile services in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, West Bengal, Karnataka and Kerala circles.

Over the past six months, the operator has been active in the Wi-Fi hotspot space and has also worked with property developers to market its smart home solutions, including WiFi-based wireless broadband devices and video surveillance systems.
