The Ministry of Communications and IT has directed Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to improve quality of services in the border and naxal-affected affected areas. The government has also stated that it is committed to revive BSNL and is undertaking a numbers of initiatives for the same, including improving quality of services by adding 1,150 towers in Bihar in 2015-16.
The Ministry has also directed the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to explore the possibility of setting up a dedicated cell in BSNL to monitor the effectiveness of its network in border areas and also in naxal-affected areas. According to the government, BSNL presently has a net worth of Rs 512.03 billion with an equity capital of Rs 125 billion.
