Samsung Electronics, the world’s third largest handset maker, plans to invest over $322 million a year in Mobile Wi-Max, a mobile broadband standard. The company has already invested 500 billion won in next-gen mobile technologies such as WiMax (conducting successful tests of its Wi-Max technology in Europe) and 4G. It has also signed an agreement to supply infrastructure to Sprint Nextel, which plans to install a nationwide Wi-Max network covering 100 million subscribers in the US in 2008. It is currently negotiating with 33 carriers in 22 countries to export Wi-Max technology.
