Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the R&S FPC1000, a new entry-class spectrum analyser. The device has been engineered in Germany, and features a flexible key code upgrade concept and offers good radio frequency (RF) performance. It also has the largest and the highest resolution display in the entry class of analysers and an integrated Wi-Fi for enabling wireless remote control through mobile applications or personal computer (PC) software. These characteristics are useful for basic research, production, service and educational applications that require spectrum analysis.
According to the company, the R&S FPC1000 spectrum ana-lyser delivers unexpected performance at a budget-friendly price. The base model of the R&S FPC1000 covers a frequency range of 5 kHz to 1 GHz, which can be expanded to 2 GHz or 3 GHz via software upgrades. This is a new feature in instruments in this class. Further, upgrades can be purchased and are available as soon as the keycode is entered without requiring recalibration.
The R&S FPC1000 provides a low noise floor level of –150 dBm (typ), which can be further extended to –165 dBm (typ) with an optional keycode-activated preamplifier. The device has a high maximum input power, which allows users to measure RF signals up to +30 dBm (1 W). The device offers the best measurement resolution in its class with 1 Hz resolution bandwidth and a 10.1 inch (26 cm) display that has a 26 per cent larger and a 2.6 times higher display resolution. This allows signals to be measured in detail.
The device comes with the virtual control feature that enables easy remote control and measurement. It supports optional Wi-Fi connectivity in addition to wired Ethernet. It also has the R&S InstrumentView for Microsoft Windows and the iOS/Android application-based R&S MobileView platforms, which enable measurements to be performed anywhere and any time.
