Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has signed a tower sharing agreement with GTL Infrastructure Limited. RJIL will use these towers for launching its 4G services. At present, GTL Infrastructure has about 30,000 telecom towers across the country.
The deal is part of the RJIL?s strategy to lease about 70,000 towers and set up 30,000 towers of its own to launch its 4G network across the country. The company has already signed tower sharing agreements with Bharti Airtel, Viom Networks, ATC India, Ascend Towers and Tower Vision.
RJIL owns broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum in the 2300 MHz band in all the 22 circles across the country. The tower sharing agreements will enable RJIL to accelerate its 4G network rollout. As per the licence norms, all BWA licensees are required to launch 4G network by May 2015. The company also bought frequency airwaves in the 1800 MHz band in February 2014.
