According to news reports, Reliance Infocomm will be launching cellular services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in April 2005. Reliance Infocomm, which will provide these services with technical support from Canada’s Telos Technology Incorporated, will introduce cellular and fixed wireless services in Port Blair, Dilanipur, Huddo and Minibay. The islands in Nicobar district will be covered in the second phase. At present, only BSNL provides cellular services in the region, and even these are restricted to Port Blair. Following the tsunami, there has been a huge demand for new connections and BSNL cash cards are being sold in the grey market.
