Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), has completed rollout obligations and is gearing up for beta launch of 4G service in the next few weeks.
Earlier, RJIL had won broadband spectrum in 2010 and as per the licence term meet the rollout obligations within five years from the date of issue of the license. The rollout obligations include putting up the network and infrastructure in place along with commercial launch of services.
Following the successful test launch of 4G services in several cities, RJIL is now ready to introduce 4G services beginning December 2015. RJIL owns spectrum in 800 MHz and 1800 MHz bands in 20 of the total 22 circles in the country, and also has 2300 MHz spectrum across all the 22 circles. At the time of the commercial launch of 4G services, the operator will have a network of about 75,000 towers, out of which it has set-up 30,000 towers on its own. The remaining towers are leased from tower companies or are shared with other telecom operators.
Going forward, RJIIL plans to install small cells in areas, where towers are not available. Also, the operator is closely working with device manufacturers to come out with affordable 4G enabled handsets. Majority of the 4G devices are to be priced below Rs 4,000.
