Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has sent a proposal to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking to allow the former to use its street light poles to deliver its 4G Wi-Fi services. As per the proposal, the company has stated that it wants to install the equipment comprising small cells of 4G long term evolution (LTE) and integrated kiosks on electric poles of BEST?s undertaking to provide 4G services.
The pilot project will consist of installation of equipment over 215 lamp posts in Mumbai?s ?D? ward. From these, RJIL will test the availability and performance of the 4G services. If the kiosks are not installed on the lamp posts then RJIL will deposit a yearly rent of Rs 150,000 to BEST for every light pole. After the kiosks are in place, the annual rent will be Rs 60,000 per lamp post. The standing committee of BEST will decide on the approval of the proposal.
