According to Reliance Jio, service deployments enabled through network slicing are a lawful use of 5G capabilities and are permitted under the current regulatory framework. In a letter dated May 25, 2026, addressed to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the telecom operator stated that the existing framework allows such offerings.
The development comes shortly after Bharti Airtel submitted a five-page response to a departmental select committee defending its recently launched priority postpaid plan against allegations that it violated net neutrality principles.
In its communication to the DoT, Jio said that deploying different network slices for different business classes or verticals complies with net neutrality norms. It added that any differential charging linked to preferential slicing within a particular class should be allowed only when supported by transparent, application-agnostic and technically justified traffic management requirements.
