Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has conducted its 47th annual general meeting (AGM). During the meeting, RIL stated that it aims to establish gigawatt-scale data centres in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This is to democratise access to artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India.
According to the company, these models and services will be hosted within India’s borders to comply with Indian data and privacy regulations, ensuring security and privacy of citizens. The company also plans to create multiple Al inference facilities across its captive locations throughout the country which will be scaled up to support the growing demand.
In addition, the company aims to partner with leading global technology companies and innovators to bring advanced Al models, solutions and tools by leveraging its expertise in infrastructure, networking, operations, software, and data.
Moreover, RIL’s connected vision envisages the services and data to be processed by Al in cloud, allowing each user to access the data and services anywhere on any device. As per RIL, Jio users will get up to 100 GB free cloud storage to securely store and access all their photos, videos, documents, all other digital content, and data at affordable prices.
Further, Jio mentioned that growing availability of affordable 5G smartphones will drive the adoption of its 5G network, and the telco aims to capture the largest share of the accelerating 5G adoption in India.
The telco stated that it has completed pan-India rollout of its 5G network with over 85 per cent 5G radio cells operating in India. It is leveraging its vast 5G spectrum holdings, standalone architecture, and advanced technologies.
According to the telco, Jio True 5G has achieved the world’s fastest 5G adoption. Over 130 million customers have embraced the telco’s 5G network in two years. Moreover, with more users migrating to 5G, the 4G capacity is being freed which presents an opportunity for the telco to welcome over 200 million 2G users to its 4G network.
Furthermore, the telco has challenged itself to add a million homes every 30 days for JioAirFiber. It has also targeted over 20 million small and medium businesses and sees potential in connecting India’s 1.5 million schools and colleges, over 70,000 hospitals, and 1.2 million doctors to high-speed internet to bring them to the digital age. It also stated that over a million small and medium businesses in India have embraced Jio and is a trusted partner for 80 per cent of the top 5,000 large enterprises in India.
The telco further highlighted that it has acquired its first one million AirFiber customers in 100 days.
As per the company, India has become the world’s largest data market with a mobile subscriber base of 490 million. It also carries nearly 8 per cent global mobile traffic on its network, surpassing even global operators.
