Nokia is set to establish the world’s largest fixed network testbed in Chennai, India. This facility will drive Nokia’s innovations in cutting-edge passive optical network (PON) technologies, including 10 gigabit (G), 25G, 50G, and 100G. It is expected to revolutionise the technology landscape, especially virtual reality, and augmented reality.
The testbed, which will be located at the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu in Siruseri, represents a significant investment of approximately Rs 4,500 million by Nokia. It will be one of the company’s largest research and development (R&D) centres globally, focusing on fixed wireless access, multi-dwelling unit solutions, access networks, and home controllers.
This collaboration between Nokia and the government of Tamil Nadu is projected to create around 100 specialised jobs and propel the development of next-generation networks in the region. The state government will provide Nokia with essential infrastructure, regulatory environment, and policy support to ensure the success of this venture.
