Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is planning to establish ultra-low cost base stations, priced at Rs 0.1 million each, say news reports.

This is reportedly expected to help the operator meet its target of rolling out broadband services in the country through Infotel Broadband in 2013. To reduce infrastructure costs, the company is looking at building its infrastructure network with a mix of rented mobile towers and its own base tower stations.

If the operator manages to adhere to the aforementioned price point, the cost of setting up base stations is expected to be as low as 1/40th of the existing base stations currently deployed.

As per industry estimates, currently, telecom towers priced at Rs 3-4 million are being deployed.
