Ran Achituv has had an eventful, diverse career with one common thread ? telecommunications. An ex-army man, he spent several years in the intelligence unit of the Israeli Army as part of Israel?s military service rule. ?My main task was to have my ear glued to the telephone and wait patiently for crucial information,? he recounts. ?For long, telecom has been an integral part of my life ? right from my early days with the army to my second career in the corporate sector.?
A software engineer by profession, Achituv has 20 years of experience in the telecom industry and has worked with companies like Verint and Aurix Limited. He has a strong background in product research, development, strategy and management.
Achituv joined Amdocs in 2012. As chief technology officer (CTO) with the company, he is responsible for planning and developing its technology vision, as well as the architecture and road map of its product portfolio. He also heads the company?s patents and innovation strategy.
Achituv sees significant business opportunity for Amdocs in India. With the steady uptake of data services, operators require support for managing crucial processes related to OSS and BSS, he says. To consolidate its position, the firm has recently launched the Amdocs CES 9 Suite, which offers operators real-time integration across networks.
Achituv is of the view that the OSS and BSS segments offer a unique challenge for operators and companies like Amdocs given that India is a predominantly prepaid market and tracking user activity and billing for data services in such a market is a demanding task. Going forward, he believes that with the industry moving towards a post-paid model, the complexity in the BSS segment will reduce significantly.
According to Achituv, ?India is moving towards data services, as revenues from voice and SMS are declining. Further, with the uptake of smartphones and connected devices, technologies like 3G and 4G are picking up. The hypercompetitive market is now moving towards consolidation, which will bring down the number of players.?
Achituv is interested in research and development and holds several patents in digital recording infrastructure, in the security/payment card industry and in the analytics space. His biggest strength is a keen eye for detail and ability to solve issues by getting to the root of the problem. He trusts his team implicitly and empowers it to deliver results.
Time away from work is usually spent with his family ? his wife and three children.
