The search for a new chairman for the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) continues.
According to news reports, Rajinder Pal Singh, former secretary, Department of Industry Policy and Promotion, has emerged as a strong contender for the post.
The selection-cum-search committee established for the same is expected to shortly take a decision.
Prior to this, it was reported that nine candidates were in the race for the position, including a supervisor in Indian Navy, the vice-chancellor of ITM University and an advisor with the telecom authority in Sultanate of Oman.
The other candidates competing for the position reportedly included Yesodhara Menon, member in the Postal Service Board, Sekhar Agarwal, secretary, Department of Defence Production, I.V. Sarma, director in Bharat Electronics Limited and R.K. Bhatnagar, currently in Oman on deputation.
Dr J.S. Sarma, TRAI?s current chairman is retiring in May 2012.
