RailTel has signed an agreement with the United States-based telecom equipment manufacturer – Infinera for procuring network infrastructure solutions.
The deal is pegged under Rs $10 million. The network infrastructure solutions will be deployed by RailTel to build up the bandwidth capacity of its optical fibre network in the eastern states.
Besides, Infinera, telecom equipment vendors like Ciena Communications, Huawei, ZTE, Tejas Networks and Wuhan Research Institute had a so participated in the bid process for the contract.
Some of these companies have alleged that RailTel bypassed most of the established players in favour of a relatively lesser known US firm Infinera. They have requested Central Vigilance Commission to look into the matter saying that RailTel did not carry out the tender evaluation formalities in a transparent manner.
