Addressing the G-20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that the principle of ‘data for development’ will be an integral part of the overall theme of India’s upcoming G-20 Presidency. He further noted that digital transformation should include every section of the population and that its greater benefits will be realised only when digital access becomes truly inclusive.
India will assume G20 Presidency for one year, beginning December 1, 2022. Vouching on India’s digital journey in the past few years, the Prime Minister asserted that if the digital architecture is made widely accessible, it can bring about socio-economic transformation.
In addition, he also noted that the focus will be on bridging the digital divide, especially in developing countries, and ensuring greater benefits from digital technologies and transformation. Also, while addressing a session on digital transformation, the Prime Minister urged other G-20 leaders to pledge that they would work together for digital inclusion over the next decade.
Throwing some light on India’s vision during the G-20 presidency in 2023, the Prime Minister informed that India will work jointly with partners in the grouping of the world’s 20 largest economies to achieve the objective. He described digital transformation as the most remarkable change of our era and said the proper use of digital technologies can be a force multiplier in the fight against poverty.
