According to the government, over 607,000 cybersecurity incidents were observed in the country during the first half of 2021.

To this end, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and IT informed the Lok Sabha that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which is mandated to identify and monitor cybersecurity incidents in India, reported a total number of 394,499, 1,158,208 and 607,220 cyber security incidents during 2019, 2020 and 2021 (upto June) respectively.

The minister also stated that the government has taken several steps to improve cybersecurity and prevent cyber assaults, including CERT-In providing alerts and advisories regularly addressing the current cyber threats/vulnerabilities and countermeasures to safeguard computers, networks, and data.

Further, Chandrasekhar stated that the government has prepared a draft National Cyber Security Strategy 2021 (NCSS2021) that addresses the issue of cyberspace security in a holistic manner.
