
According to International Data Corporation (IDC), globally vendors shipped a total of 11.4 million wearable devices in the first quarter of 2015 as compared to 3.8 million wearable devices shipped in the corresponding quarter in 2014.
The research firm underlines that the continued growth in the wearable devices segment demonstrates increasing end-user interest and the vendors? ability to deliver a diversity of devices and experiences. Further, the demand from emerging markets is on the rise and vendors are coming up with innovative products to meet these requirements.
FitBit led the market with 34.2 per cent share of the total wearable devices shipment, followed by Xiaomi and Garmin with a market share of 24.6 per cent and 6.1 per cent, respectively. Other players including Samsung and Jawbone had a market share of 5.3 per and 4.4 per cent.
IDC states that the price erosion in wearable devices segment has been significant. At present, over 40 per cent of the devices are priced under $100. Affordable pricing has helped top five vendors to increase their market share in the wearable devices segment.
