Chinese handset vendor OPPO is planning to establish a handset manufacturing unit in India by August 2015. The move is aimed at strengthening its position in the Indian domestic handset market.
OPPO entered the Indian market in January 2014 and claims to have sold about 400,000 devices so far. The company plans to sell a total of 1.5 million handset units in 2015. OPPO also plans to expand its service centre network in the country from existing 120 service centers to 320 service centres by end-2015.
According to Sky Li, vice-president, OPPO, ?India is the top priority in our expansion plans in South Asia this year. We have received tremendous support and appreciation from the customers and it is now time to reciprocate the feeling. The smartphone boom in India indicates that the time is just right to focus on expansion plans and increase our volumes in India to a comparable level with the China market in the next five years.?
Li added, ?2015 will be a year of expansion for us. We are already among the ?top three? players in Indonesia, with more than 11 per cent market share. Similarly, the company has 13 per cent market share in Vietnam and about11 per cent market share in Malaysia. Globally, we plan to sell more that 15 million units this year.?
