August 12, 2011 | Archive News

According to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Reliance Communications (RCOM), Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have lost the most subscribers owing to mobile number portability (MNP).

RCOM has lost more than 1.15 million subscribers and 0.37 million TTSL users have switched operators since MNP was introduced in November 2010.

Meanwhile, Idea Cellular, Vodafone Essar and Bharti airtel have gained the most users, with net addition of 0.82 million, 0.71 million and 0.65 million subscribers respectively. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited and BSNL lost 40,366 and 5,73,142 subscribers, respectively

Further according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), about 13 million subscribers have requested for a change in service provider until the end of June, 2011.

Also, TRAI said that the maximum number of porting requests originated from Gujarat (1.29 million), followed by Maharashtra (1.03 million) until June 30. About 10.5 million subscribers had used MNP, as on May 31.
