Various operators, including Airtel Nigeria, MTN, Etisalat and Globacom have paid $3.7 million as fines for poor quality of service in Nigeria, says news reports.

The companies were fined by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of Nigeria. These operators were penalised following a Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) test carried out on mobile operators’ networks for March and April.

This test indicated that the operators had failed to maintain minimum standard of quality services in the country. The KPI test was carried out on four parameters, call set-up success rate, call completion rate, drop call rate and traffic channel congestion.

Meanwhile, these companies have said that inadequate infrastructure including lack of electricity was why their service quality dropped.
