OpenAI has announced plans to expand into India, starting with its first office in New Delhi later in 2025. The firm is reportedly also preparing to establish a major data centre in the country, which will form part of its $500 billion Stargate project.
India is currently ChatGPT’s second-largest market after the United States and remains among the fastest growing globally. Weekly active users of ChatGPT in India have increased more than fourfold over the past year.
Additionally, the proposed data centre in India is expected to be part of the second phase of the Stargate project, which also includes facilities in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
