France-based global information technology service provider, Steria has published the results of its Business Intelligence Maturity Audit (biMA) survey.
?
The survey was aimed at assessing the importance of big data as an analytics tool amongst IT companies in Europe. The survey was conducted in 20 European countries and highlighted that only 7 per cent of organisations consider big data to be relevant for their businesses. The survey findings suggest that the concerns regarding the quality of the data collected is the biggest challenge in the adoption of big data as a strategic tool for business development.
Following are the key findings of the survey:
About 72 per cent of companies have not chalked out a business intelligence (BI) strategy.
About 38 per cent of companies have concerns regarding the quality of data being used for analysis.
The lack of data governance, inadequate standardisation of internal processes and the lack of master data management systems lead to the availability of poor quality data and the organisation?s inability to share and integrate data across the business.
A majority of the businesses are unable to deploy enterprise-wide BI strategies to determine the return on investment. This indicates that the benefits of the technology are not clear to all decision-makers.
