Minister of state for communications and rural development has clarified that the Department of Telecommunications is not considering any relief for Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) on its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. The government became the single largest shareholder in Vi after acquiring shares worth Rs 369.5 billion in March 2025 against outstanding spectrum auction dues. Earlier, in 2023, it had acquired a 33 per cent stake in lieu of statutory dues worth over Rs 160 billion.

Vi, however, told the supreme court that it cannot survive without government support. Its AGR liability stood at around Rs 750 billion at the end of the June 2025 quarter.
