National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) plans on putting up 75 new internet exchanges this year which will cover tier-2 and 3-level towns and cities. NIXI chief executive officer Anil Kumar Jain shared on the 20th foundation day that the internet exchanges that are closer to the users in smaller towns will help in improving internet speed, save bandwidth and boost the digital economy in and around where the exchanges are to be set up. 

NIXI has set up 77 exchanges in the last 20 years and is planning on setting up another 75 new exchanges in tier 2 and 3 towns and cities this year. NIXI also handles the registration of all the websites that end with ‘.in’, the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) and ‘.bharat’ in the Hindi script. They will focus on the safe and trusted use of ‘.in’ websites.
