
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) registered a loss of Rs 8.34 billion for the quarter ended September 2014, registering a 11.9 per cent narrowed decrease when compared to the losses of Rs 9.47 billion posted during the quarter ended September 2013.
Meanwhile, the company posted an increase of 4.55 per cent in revenues from Rs 8.13 billion in July-September 2013 to Rs 8.50 billion in July-September 2014. The losses before other income, finance costs and exceptional items reported a decline from Rs 7.33 billion for the quarter ended September 2013 to Rs 4.75 billion for the corresponding quarter in 2014.
Both the basic and cellular business of MTNL posted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) losses. The basic business reported a reduced loss worth Rs 3.17 billion in July-September 2014, against the losses of Rs 4.99 billion in July-September 2013. However, the revenues from its basic services dominated MTNL?s total revenues, registering a year on year growth of 4.53 per cent. The revenues increased from Rs 6.40 billion for the quarter ended September 2013 to Rs 6.69 billion for the quarter ended September 2014.
The cellular business of the telecom operator also registered an improvement in its EBITDA losses from Rs 1.22 billion for the quarter ended September 2013 to Rs 1.19 billion for the quarter ended September 2014. Further, the cellular business experienced a 3.93 per cent increase in its revenues of from Rs 1.78 billion to Rs 1.85 billion for the period under review.
