Reliance Communications (RCOM) has reported a 77.3 per cent reduction in its net profits for the quarter ended September 2014. The profits declined from Rs 6.75 billion for the quarter September 2013 to Rs 1.53 billion for the quarter September 2014. The revenues also experienced a declined from Rs 53.61 billion in July-September 2013 to Rs 52.87 billion in July-September 2014.

For the Indian business, RCOM posted 1.66 per cent increase in profits from Rs 8.40 billion for the quarter ended September 2013 to Rs 8.54 billion for the quarter ended September 2014. Meanwhile, the overseas business contributed with a profit of Rs 0.30 billion in July-September 2014, as against a profit of Rs 1.10 billion in July-September 2013.

Like its peers in the Indian telecom market, RCOM registered an increase in its data subscribers and higher uptake of data services. The data traffic increased by 15 per cent year on year to 65.77 billion MB in July-September 2014, while the total data customer base grew to 29.7 million subscribers in the same time period.

For RCOM, the tariff hikes followed by strong focus on paid and profitable minutes led to an increase in voice realisation per minute (RPM) and average revenue per user (ARPU). The voice RPM and ARPU stood at Re 0.33 and Rs 137 respectively for the quarter ended September 2014. Meanwhile, the minutes of usage on the operator?s network stood at 102.1 billion in July-September 2014.
