The state-run Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), which operates mobile and landline services in Mumbai and Delhi, is exploring opportunities to diversify into the managed services space in international markets.

At present, MTNL is operating mobile services on the GSM and CDMA platforms in Mauritius.

MTNL is looking at inking multi-year managed services deals with mobile phone companies in African markets like Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Djibouti and Mozambique. It will be handling network management, upgradation, planning and maintenance for GSM technology service operators in these African countries. MTNL will also advice and help its African partners in selection of vendors. It will also be responsible for the upkeep of key performance indicators and service legal agreements.

The projects in African countries will be executed by MTNL?s Mauritius arm, Mahanagar Telephone Mauritius Limited (MTML). The parent company has plans of relocating about 100 of its engineers and consultants from Mumbai and Delhi to Mauritius to lead various managed services deal in Africa.
