
Nigeria?s telecom regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has fined four operators including MTN, Airtel Rs 7.38 million for poor quality service in the country.
MTN and Etisalat have been fined Rs 2.26 million each. Bharti Airtel has been asked to pay Rs 1.70 million. And Globacom, a privately owned network of Nigerian billionaire tycoon Mike Adenuga, has been asked to pay a penalty of Rs 1.13 million.
Nigeria is Africa?s second-biggest economy and is home to 160 million people. NCC has imposed fine on the operators owing to complaints by users of frequent dropped calls and network interruptions. The penalties have been imposed on these operators for having failed to meet the minimum standard of quality of service during May and April, 2012.
