Motorola Inc. has announced a five-year agreement to supply a GSM network to KaR-Tel, a leading mobile operator in Kazakhstan and a subsidiary of VimpelCom. The deal has a projected value of $100 million for purchase of equipment and services and will enable KaR-Tel to substantially increase its subscriber capacity. Further, the addition of GPRS will enable KaRTel to offer its customers enhanced data applications. Motorola will supply mobility products and solutions that will provide additional coverage on KaR-Tel’s 900 MHz networks across the country. Commercial deployment of the new network is scheduled to begin in June 2005.
