As part of a cost-cutting initiative, ZTE India plans to scale down its R&D operations in India, say news reports.
The vendor plans to cut down its workforce at its R&D centre in Bangalore and is merging its R&D operations with its Indian Engineering & Service Centre (IESC) to trim overheads.
ZTE India’s R&D unit develops telecom software applications in the mobile value added services space, including caller ring-back tones (CRBTs), call centre applications and billing solutions.
Commenting on the restructuring exercise, Cui Liangjun, chief executive officer, ZTE India, says, “ZTE India is optimising its resources to remain effective in what has been a challenging year for the telecommunications industry. The company will be optimising operational efficiency by merging its existing R&D Setup in Bangalore with its Indian Engineering & Service Center (IESC) in Bangalore, India.”
