According to Jyotiraditya M Scindia, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, mobile phone tariff has come down by 94 per cent since 2014.
The minister noted that the increasing number of consumers necessitates tariff monitoring. In 2014, a one-minute call cost 50 paise, but now costs three paise, demonstrating a 94 per cent decrease. The cost of 1 GB of broadband has fallen from Rs 270 in 2014 to Rs 9.70, a 93 per cent reduction. He said that India offers the most affordable internet data rates globally.
Further, he mentioned a 10 per cent tariff increase, justifying it by investments in the rapid 5G rollout, which has covered 98 per cent of districts and 82 per cent of the population in 22 months.
Furthermore, approximately Rs 4.5 trillion has been invested, and as per the minister, this investment should yield returns. According to him, India has the lowest voice and data tariffs worldwide.
