Microsoft Corporation has announced that the Skype call service to Indian landline and mobile connections within India will be discontinued with effect from November 10, 2014. However, Skype customers will be able to send SMS messages to mobile phones from within India. In addition to this, Skype users travelling outside India will be able to make calls to the Indian mobile and landline connections from their Skype accounts.
No further changes are made in the services and the users will be able to make free Skype-to-Skype calls within India and outside and international Skype calls from India to landlines and mobiles in other countries.
Skype Communications is an over-the-top service provider specialising in providing video chat and voice call services via the Internet. Skype Communications, which provides the Skype service, was acquired by Microsoft in 2011.
