Meta has announced plans to build the world’s longest underwater cable project, which aims to connect the US, India, South Africa, Brazil and other regions. As per the techco, the project is named Project Waterworth and it involves a 50,000 km (31,000-mile) subsea cable.
The project is the world’s longest subsea cable project that uses 24 fibre pair cable. The company is deploying first-of-its-kind routing, maximising the cable laid at depths up to 7,000 meters, and using enhanced burial techniques in high-risk fault areas, such as shallow waters near the coast, to avoid damage from ship anchors and other hazards.
