The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has reportedly formed an industry-led panel to develop a national framework aimed at accelerating the growth of global capability centres (GCCs) in India. The initiative follows the federal budget announcement, which outlined plans to guide states in promoting GCCs, particularly in tier-2 cities. Collectively, GCCs now account for over a quarter of the revenue generated by India’s established $250-billion outsourcing industry.
The panel, constituted last month, includes Nasscom, Zinnov Consulting, ANSR, KPMG, and Invest India. The objective of the panel is to outline key recommendations for enhancing talent availability, upgrading infrastructure, reforming bylaws, and strengthening collaboration between government and industry.
Further, the committee is expected to hold its first meeting in the coming weeks and will serve a one-year term. The goal is to create a cohesive framework that integrates existing policies across IT, hardware, GCCs, startups, deeptech, skilling, data security, and intellectual property, avoiding a siloed approach to technology-enabled growth.
