The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) has reportedly received a go-ahead to rollout the ambitious National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mission, a five-year programme announced in the Union Budget two years ago.

As per industry sources, MeitY will now implement the mission while the NITI Aayog will be help with planning and support.

The decision comes after a committee headed by principal scientific advisor to the prime minister, K. VijayRaghavan, was set up in 2019 to resolve the differences and areas of overlap with regards to the mission between the NITI Aayog and MeitY. The move resolves the long-standing issue regarding which arm of the administration would implement the prestigious project.

Earlier, the NITI Aayog had made a proposal worth Rs 70 billion for the project, which will now be implemented by MeitY.
