As per industry sources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Pune at a worth of Rs 5 billion. The EMC is likely to come up in Ranjangaon Phase III and will be set up over an area of 297 acres. Meanwhile, the central government assistance for the project is expected to be nearly Rs 2.08 billion.
As per government estimates, the aforesaid approval is expected to attract an investment of up to Rs 20 billion, while generating direct employment for up to 5,000 people. Besides, similar the proposals from Uttarakhand and Telangana are under consideration.
The modified EMC 2.0 scheme, notified on April 1, 2020, envisages the setting up electronics manufacturing companies to create a robust ecosystem. The scheme’s objective is to provide financial assistance for setting up EMC projects as well as common facility centres (CFCs).
