The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has reportedly added another 24,000 graphics processing units (GPUs), taking the total number to 62,000, as part of efforts to boost innovation and the development of indigenous artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
The move is part of a broader strategy to build a compute capacity of 200,000 GPUs to meet the rising demand for AI services across the country under a public private partnership model.
The expansion of computing infrastructure is expected to support the development of indigenous large language models and accelerate AI applications across sectors such as agriculture, healthcare and education.
In addition, the IndiaAI Mission is working with state governments to support the development and deployment of AI models by providing computing infrastructure and relevant datasets.
