Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has commissioned 6,132 4G sites across Andhra Pradesh to provide high speed internet and improved mobile services to subscribers, according to the chief general manager of the Andhra Pradesh telecom circle.

Of the total, around 1,325 sites have been deployed under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) funded 4G Saturation Project. These sites cover 2,641 remote and previously uncovered villages, aimed at narrowing the rural urban digital divide.

He said the number of 4G subscribers in the state has increased from 0.5 million to 1.7 million. Mobile data consumption has also risen significantly, from 184 terabyte (TB) to 410 TB per day. In addition, the volume of 4G voice calls has increased fourfold, from 150,000 Erlangs to 600,000 Erlangs per day.

Meanwhile, BSNL has commissioned 112 DBN funded 4G sites in the undivided Chittoor district, also known as the Tirupati Telecom district. Work is currently underway at another 57 sites under the project.
