MediaTek has partnered with Meta Platforms Inc. to enable generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications on smartphones, internet of things (IoT), vehicles, smart home and other edge devices.

Under the partnership, MediaTek would utilise Meta’s Llama 2 large language model (LLM) and the latest MediaTek accelerated processing units (APUs) and NeuroPilot AI Platform with an aim to build a complete edge computing ecosystem designed to accelerate AI application development on devices.

The chipmaker added that the ability to run generative AI applications directly on-device includes various advantages like seamless performance, greater privacy, better security and reliability, lower latency and the ability to work in areas with less connectivity and lower operation cost. MediaTek is planning to launch Llama 2 based AI applications by the end of 2023.
