Malaysia-based Celcom and Maxis have announced the intercon nection of their 3G networks to enable interconnected video telephony. Opening access between the networks will allow users of both operators to make and receive video calls and send and retrieve video messages among themselves. With the interconnection, Celcom and Maxis expect the 3G service to contribute between 3 and 5 per cent to their revenues from 2008 onwards.
Meanwhile, Maxis Communications Bhd is still in discussions with the Indonesian government on the upfront fee it has to pay to start 3G or high speed mobile services in the country.
