The Maharashtra cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, approved the creation of green integrated data centre parks in the state. This initiative is projected to draw an investment of Rs 1600 billion. The government plans to offer various incentives, and once operational, these parks are expected to generate ongoing revenue through both direct and indirect taxes, alongside non-tax revenue.

These emerging data centre parks are anticipated to create jobs for around 500 highly skilled professionals directly, while indirectly providing employment for approximately 3,000 hi-tech based individuals. Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned a partial amendment to the Information Technology and Information Technology Support Services Policy, 2023, to facilitate extra incentives for these parks.

Three data centre parks, each with a minimum capacity of 500 MW, will qualify for these incentives. The total fixed capital investment for these projects is estimated at Rs 300 billion over a decade, with an incentive period set at 20 years. Eligible new parks must meet specific investment criteria, including a co-location investment of at least Rs 100 billion. The incentive scheme will automatically conclude after the establishment of three such data centre projects in the state.
