L.K. Tiwari, Additional Chief General Manager, MPSEDC

As additional chief general manager at the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (MPSEDC), L.K. Tiwari has his hands full. He is working towards creating a robust digital infrastructure in the state and is also striving to increase investments in the IT and electronics manufacturing sectors. Tiwari is also the nodal officer of several of the state’s IT projects. He has also been instrumental in formulating the state’s IT and BPO policies.

Tiwari holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics and telecommunication engineering. He started his career with Central Electronics Limited. He joined MPSEDC in 1985 and has since looked after various departments, including electronics manufacturing, quality control, and research and development.

For Tiwari, designing an instrument for measuring the transmission quality of communication lines for Indian Railways was one of his most challenging and exciting assignments. “I happened to go to a railway control room 19 years after designing the instrument, and I saw the equipment installed on the control panel. I hesitantly asked the staff whether the equipment was in use, and they said that it was working satisfactorily.  This was the most satisfying moment of my life,” he says.

Tiwari feels that the telecom sector will see convergence of different technologies in the coming years. “In future, the telecom sector will be a homogeneous network of voice, video data and internet of things operating seamlessly, with the differentiation gradually vanishing.”

Tiwari considers his result-oriented outlook and hardwork as his key strengths. Describing his weaknesses, he says, “I accept all kinds of projects and do not say no to any work, even if I have to learn from scratch.  This sometimes results in overburdening in the office.  I always try to learn and update myself with new technologies by interacting with specialists in the field.”

Tiwari likes to give a free hand to his subordinates and motivate them to accept challenges. “I do not discourage them in case of failure and try to help them achieve the targets.  I always believe in sharing whatever knowledge I have gained with my subordinates,” he elaborates.

In his spare time, Tiwari indulges in light reading. His family comprises his wife, a homemaker, his son, a management professional, and his daughter-in-law who is an engineer. His daughter is a dental surgeon and his son-in-law is an engineer.
