Joe Emmanuel
Senior Vice-President, Product and Presales, Route Mobile
Joe Emmanuel, currently serving as senior vice-president at Route Mobile, has over two decades of experience in the telecom space. In his current role, he is responsible for heading the pre-sales and product management functions for product innovations and enhancing user experience in the field of communications.
Prior to joining Route Mobile in 2020, he worked at Mahindra Comviva for almost 16 years and was responsible for product management and technical solutions. In the past, he has worked with telecom operators across India, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Emmanuel’s strong product management skills enable him to offer a comprehensive, end-to-end view of any opportunity. “It is important to visualise the technical feasibility and business viability of the product. A strong technical and business mindset makes it easier to build the products,” he says.
Commenting on the sector, Emmanuel notes that the communications industry is fast-paced and dynamic. The telecom sector is witnessing a convergence of service channels such as voice, SMS, over-the-top (OTT) services and rich communications service (RCS), he points out. In the future, he anticipates that telecom operators will explore technology solutions such as operator communications platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) and combine their services with OTT services to meet the end-to-end communication needs of modern-day enterprises. “Businesses will be looking at RCS business messaging as a channel to get better returns on investment and business conversions. There would also be a need for generative artificial intelligence-powered conversational bot solutions,” he adds.
For Emmanuel, the most memorable assignment of his professional career has been working on a CPaaS solution for a leading telecom operator in Bangladesh. “Providing a unique RCS solution for the operator to enhance its enterprise business was a notable achievement. Together, we made a first entry into the market,” he recalls.
In terms of management style, Emmanuel says he believes in teamwork. “There should be no hierarchy when working as a team, and sharing ideas, trusting each other and learning from mistakes help build a strong foundation for delivering results. Collaboration, combined with a sense of ownership, is key to driving innovation and building products,” he says. Emmanuel has an MCA degree and has done an executive postgraduate programme in marketing and operations from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode. In his leisure time, Emmanuel likes to meditate and enjoys driving. His family comprises his wife and their son.
