Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has selected NEC to provide an evolved packet core network capable of supporting its “Super 3G” next-generation wireless networks. Super 3G is an advanced version of HSDPA and HSUPA, and is capable of delivering data transmission speeds of over 100 Mbps (downlink) and over 50 Mbps (uplink). The latest order puts NEC in a pole position to become DoCoMo’s sole Super 3G system vendor. NEC was earlier selected as a Super 3G wireless base station and terminal provider for the Japanese operator.
